Each year at our quilt show The Twisted Threads group features an additional category of quilts. For the 2023 quilt show, our special category will be “SCRAP QUILTS.”
Scrap Quilts as defined on thequiltshow.com/quiltipedia:
“Scrap Quilts are quilts, usually pieced, that are made from a wide variety of fabrics, in various colors and designs. The quilt may be made from one block design or different designs. Scrap Quilts can be carefully planned by color and design or improvisational in design.”
*Entries must be completed quilts (three layers consisting of top, batting, and back with edges finished in an appropriate manner for the style of the quilt).
*Entries may be any size. The size of the quilt pieces should be scaled to the finished size of the quilt so that all quilts will have a minimum of 50-75 fabrics.
*Projects may be patchwork, applique, rag quilts, art quilts, and more, but must be a completed piece to enter.
*Entries must be obviously (80%) scrappy. For our quilt show, matched precut (such as jelly roll and charm
pack) projects are not the intent and will not qualify for ribbons. (Using leftover scraps from them is
encouraged!)
*For our show, a “scrap” is defined as a piece of fabric smaller than a fat quarter that is remaining after use in a previous project. It may be from your own previous projects, or you may use someone else’s scraps. New
fabric acquired especially for a project is not scrap.
We use the honor system but reserve the right to disqualify entries that don’t follow the rules.
Let your focus be on the joy of quilting. Make a quilt, and use your scraps.
